Introducing Binance’s Biometric Authentication

Binance’s Biometric Authentication

Binance promote the growth of the cryptocurrency ecosystem by always putting user safety first. Therefore, protecting users is a top priority for Binance. As cryptocurrencies gradually move towards the mainstream, it is also Binance’s duty to do so.

This responsibility includes ensuring that users have all the necessary account security tools – such as two-factor authentication. As innovators, Binance is constantly looking for new tools that users can leverage.

Today, we’re excited to share the details of Binance’s newly released biometric two-factor authentication (2FA).

What is biometric authentication?

Accounts on any platform should be both secure, private and user-friendly, which represents a reasonable balance. There is no need to make a choice, you can have both. This is where the advantage of biometrics comes in.

Convenience

The most obvious benefit that biometric authentication technology brings to users is convenience. This is especially important in the fast-moving cryptocurrency market.

With traditional SMS or email verification methods, users have to check their inboxes and manually enter verification codes—a bigger problem if users can’t access their phone number or email account. Users may have to contact customer service to restore access.

Biometrics improves the user experience by replacing these processes by simply glancing at or touching the screen. Users don’t have to worry about “losing face” or losing fingerprints.

Safe and secure

According to Apple, with or without a mask, the chances of any one person looking at your device and using Face ID to log in is less than 1 in 1 million.

Biometric technology has its own unique security. Unlike CAPTCHA and passwords, your face and fingerprints are on you – both of which are difficult to steal or abuse through malicious activities such as phishing scams.

For example, scammers who gain access to a user’s email account can easily intercept 2FA verification codes. However, they won’t be able to fake the user’s face or fingerprints when trying to log in. Additionally, both Apple and Android have implemented strict security procedures for the use of their biometric sensors.

Open Binance’s Account

Your account. Your data.

All biometric information is stored locally on the user’s device. This data will not be transmitted or shared over any network or cloud. In other words, Binance won’t see your face or fingerprints. Binance will only receive notifications when users pass or fail biometric authentication.

Protect the larger ecosystem

Falsifying biometric information is a complex process, much more difficult than simply stealing someone’s password or PIN. This minimizes user risk and gives users the peace of mind that their funds will not fall into the wrong hands.

In addition to benefiting users, biometric checks will inform institutions such as Binance whether the logged-in user is using a real identity. A simple facial scan can stop malicious individuals from breaking into accounts and causing irreversible damage. Using these tools, users can protect their funds and ecosystems from bad actors in real-time.
