Dealing Desk (DD)

A dealing desk (DD) broker acts as a market maker for over-the-counter (OTC) financial instruments, such as forex, commodities, and derivatives. A dealing desk is staffed by traders who facilitate trades between buyers and sellers by taking the opposite side of the trade.

When a trader places a trade through a dealing desk, the dealing desk acts as the counterparty to the trade, rather than matching the trade with another trader. This means that the dealing desk is taking on the risk of the trade, and may profit from the spread between the bid and ask prices of the financial instrument being traded.

A dealing desk may operate on a fixed spread model, meaning that the spread between the bid and ask prices is fixed and does not vary based on market conditions. Alternatively, a dealing desk may operate on a variable spread model, meaning that the spread may widen or narrow depending on market conditions.
