Greece HCMC
HCMC stands for Hellenic Capital Market Commission. It is the regulatory authority responsible for the supervision and regulation of the capital markets in Greece. HCMC was established in 1989 and is an independent public institution with headquarters in Athens. Its mission is to ensure the transparency, fairness, and integrity of the Greek capital markets and to protect the interests of investors. HCMC supervises and regulates all actors involved in the Greek capital markets, including issuers, investment firms, credit institutions, and market operators. It ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations, such as the Greek Capital Markets Law and the EU’s Market in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II), and monitors market abuse and insider trading activities. HCMC also works closely with other regulatory authorities in Greece and internationally to promote regulatory consistency and to combat financial crime. Its actions aim to contribute to the development of the Greek capital market and the stability of the European financial system.
