ETFs

ETFs, or Exchange Traded Funds, are investment funds that are traded on stock exchanges like individual stocks. ETFs are designed to track the performance of a particular index, such as the S&P 500, or a specific sector or asset class, such as technology stocks or commodities.

ETFs are similar to mutual funds in that they provide investors with exposure to a diversified portfolio of assets, but they differ in a few key ways. For example, ETFs can be traded throughout the day, like stocks, while mutual funds can only be bought or sold at the end of the trading day at the net asset value (NAV) price. Additionally, ETFs often have lower expense ratios than mutual funds, making them a more cost-effective option for investors.

ETFs are also known for their tax efficiency. When investors sell shares of an ETF, they typically trigger a capital gain or loss, which is taxable. However, because of the way ETFs are structured, they are often able to minimize the tax consequences of these sales, which can be advantageous for investors.
